Here’s what is envisioned for a Diabetes Time Capsule. ‘You’ refers to whomever opens the Time Capsule. ‘We’, of course, is everyone affected by diabetes as of today, April 1, 2012. It is written in the context of a ‘CURE’ being available in 2112.
This six hundred pound Pancreas shaped object, would of course have the numbers ‘100’ inscribed on the outside since that’s what everyones Meter reads according to advertisements.
Our Diabetes Time Capsule 2112 would of course have to be buried somewhere near St. Pancras Railway Station, after being blessed by St. Pancreas, the Patron Saint of Diabetes (for all you fact checkers it is actually St. Paulina, St. Pancreas just sounded better).
We would offer the following brief history of diabetes, courtesy of the Canadian Diabetes Assoication (That is a text link If there is still an Internet in 2112), showing just how long we have been waiting for a ‘CURE’ to date.
1552 BCE - Egyptian physician Hesy-Ra of the 3rd Dynasty makes the first known mention of diabetes – found on the Ebers Papyrus – and lists remedies to combat the ‘passing of too much urine.
Summer 1921 - Dr.Frederick Banting’s work leads to the discovery of insulin. On July 30, Dog 410 is the first to receive the extract.
Dec. 20, 2006 - The United Nations recognizes diabetes as a global threat and designates World Diabetes Day, November 14 – in honour of Frederick Banting’s birthday – as a UN Day to be observed every year starting in 2007
April 2012 - Nearly 300 different medications for diabetes, either on the market, or still in development. Good work is being done in the research area, but still...NO CURE.
There would be every kind of Blue Shoe known to the world in our Diabetes Time Capsule 2112. We would also add some Statistics about the more than five different FORMS of diabetes we live with now. Of course, we would throw in some diabetes supplies, devices, maybe one of every different kind of diabetes medication there is now.
Of course a DVD recording of some of the Ad’s we see on television, print, and of course, our Internet. That DVD would also have a special montage of all the mice that have been CURED, the snake oil CURES, and would be completed with a special clip of someone saying “Diabeetus” for a couple of minutes..
We are not sure if a ‘CURE’ will be here in our lifetime, so just in case, one of the most important items in our Diabetes Time Capsule 2112 would be a LETTER TO THE CURE, from all of us that have been patiently waiting for so long.
Dear ‘Cure’,
We will try to be short.
We have watched too many victims die, so many with associated medical conditions that cripple lives. Right now, April 1st 2012, there are close to 600 MILLION people with diabetes, many do not even know.
Diabetes has reached pandemic proportions and even with the best treatment options, the best control, the BILLIONS of dollars spent, does NOT make any day of anyone’s life any better...PERIOD.
All of us affected by diabetes understands we have not yet met you Mr. or Mrs. ‘CURE’, and we aren’t trying to be rude, however, WHERE THE HELL have you been all this time, while people DIE & suffer? We are strong, and we survive, but some of us think you should have been here a LONG time ago.
And we also celebrate in advance, along with all the fortunate people you, the “CURE”, have saved, because when you finally get here, WE will finally say that we can KICK YOUR ASS before diabetes has any chance of kicking ours, anymore!

p.s. We have also included a Sears catalog for historical purposes, and lot’s of weights so the Time Capsule weighs six hundred pounds, in honor of one of the first ever recorded Time Capsules...LOL (you probably will not know what LOL means either)
